Pandemic isolation tent, Carnegie Campus 1918

This is a picture of one his friend in a Pandemic tent on the campus at Carnegie. Note how far away the tent is from Leigh who took the photograph. They were probably socially distancing just like today.

The 1918 batch of influenza was the H1N1 virus and it killed an estimated 675,000 people in the US alone.

A full view of the pandemic tents at Carnegie Tech in 1918. Apparently there were single tents as well as group tents to help with isolation.

Leigh’s writing explaining the picture on the left.
